What is your purpose on earth? Is it to provide a service, to repair or build something or to bring healing as a medical professional? Is it to create things that bring joy to others? Is it to marry and raise a family? We often think of our purpose in terms of what we do with our lives-our jobs, our families or our accomplishments.
In Psalm 6, David makes a statement that helps us understand our purpose. David writes "For in death there is no remembrance of You. In Sheol, who will give you praise?" David was facing a difficult and frightening situation. He believed he might even lose his life to his enemies. His prayer to God was essentially saying, "If I die, who will tell this world about You? Who will praise You and make your goodness known?"
In that simple thought, we find understanding of our purpose. Our purpose is to make it clear to others who God is-to live in such a way that our lives demonstrate His goodness as we obey Him and serve others.
Our time on earth is short. So, the question is: Will we faithfully live for Christ and share the Gospel with the people God places in our lives each day? That is our true purpose!
