Have you ever experienced fun that was only a temporary feeling? Reflecting on my past, I can say that I have experienced things that were fun but later left me empty. Everything that I sought for fun or joy that was apart from God, always left me empty. Yet when I trusted in Jesus Christ, I found lasting joy.
David writes in Psalm 4:7, “You have put more joy in my heart than they when their grain and wine abound.” David had more joy than the people had when they celebrated the harvest with food and drinking. He found that joy was not a passing event, but an abiding presence. David found joy in his heart, the very center of his being. He had joy when his circumstances were good and when they were bad. Why? Because faith in the Lord dictated the way he saw what was happening around him.
A person surrendered to the leadership of Christ will experience His eternal joy. It is time to stop seeking happiness through empty pursuits. Pursue Jesus by seeking to obey Him in every area of your life. You will find the outcome is a JOY like no other.
